Relevant Professional Experience:

Professional Experience
This was my professional experience module that I did in my second year I spent three months learning how to make videos with a professional video production company.
• Developed a sense of what the professional world is like.
• Developed my accounting skills and learned a way of keeping accounts in balance and under check.
• Learned better ways of accomplishing certain things within moving image work.
• Learned ways of editing that had previously been unknown to me.
• Learned to use useful software that had not previously been known to me such as After effects and Google sketch up.
• Learned how to work in a professional environment and how to communicate with the cliental better.
Additional work experience:
Jan 2005-Jan 2007
Nutmeg Tree
I worked for 2 years in a small restaurant, I had to be a quick thinker and learn fast to make sure I knew what I was doing and to make sure that I always got thing right.
Skills gained
I gained a lot of skills from this experience; I learned how to follow what my manager had told me to do. I also learnt how to work as part of a much wider team. This consisted of two managers and a team of about 20 people in two different areas of work.
June 2007- Jan 2008
Next
I worked for 3 months in next which is a clothing sales place; I have learnt a whole range of new skills doing this job as well.
Skills gained
Working at next has often meant that I have needed to work fast and to think on my feet. As working in the stockroom there was usually a lot of stock and no managers around to help us we often had to be individual and think on our own. This encouraged individual thinking.
September 2008-June 2009
Student Ambassador
I am still working as a student ambassador. I show people aroung accommodation on open days and just helping out with peoples general enquires .
Skills gained
I learnt to work by myself well as when I was doing accommodation tours I had to do them by myself. I also developed my customer relation skills and helped me to relate to the public better.
Additional Skills:
Child Psychology: Did a module in child psychology while at university and have desires to work further with children when I leave this is why I chose this module
I also went into schools in my first year at university to help
primary school aged children with there reading
Interest and activities:
Radio: I love listen to radio in my spare time, particularly, The News Quiz and Old Harry’s game.
Memberships: I am a member of the Christian Union and have been all the way through university. I am also a member of a local Vineyard church.
Motivational Statement:
I am really interested in radio because in my second year me and two
of my colleges made a quiz panel type show called riddle time. I helped make the content for this and I also presented it. This was when I first discovered my passion for radio. I really enjoyed just being able to talk without worrying about what I looked like. I found it easy to describe things that people couldn’t see. I love to talk and this for me was ideal because it meant that people would listen to me. I also really enjoyed being in the studio and found it easy to interact with those around me. It felt like radio presenting was one of my hidden talents. Since then I have gone on to do it in my final project and I again I have been presenting with the other girls. But this time I have also learnt how to use the decks in the digital studio.
My main aspiration would be to work for radio 4 preferably I really like listen to there comedy shows such as the News quiz and the now show. I also really like the show Old Harry’s Game written by Andy Hamilton. I would really like to work on one of these shows.
Personal Statement:
I have many achievements both inside and outside university and these reflect on the skills that I have today.
One the achievements I have inside university is that I have completed 2 broadcast modules and am also working on a third broadcast piece for my final project. I have learnt that I work both in a large group and a small group well and that my work is usually better when I have people to bounce my ideas off of.
My final project has also taught me project management skills and also time management skills. I have learnt how to manage the time that we have on the project so that we are spreading the work out over the weeks and not bunching it up at the end of the project.
Outside of my course I have worked as a student ambassador for the past year. This has helped me with my customer services skills. I have had to deal with people’s enquires and also offering people comfort and support when things go wrong. This will be useful for a career in radio because it has helped me to learn how to relate to the people better.
My time as a student ambassador has also helped me develop the way that I work by myself. I had to give accommodation tours by myself and this meant I had to learn to think on my feet and solve problems without anyone else helping me.
