Feedback from Lecturers
This is where the feedback from my lecturers can be found. My comments on the feedback are in green.
Karen’s Feedback
First of all a big well done – your effort and research into children’s radio, attention to detail and creativity shine through this excerpt and you should feel very proud of your work.
My thoughts are;
1. The news is too long (2 mins – a fifth of your segment!) and doesn’t sound like a good fit with your programme at the moment. Either shorten to headlines only (and remove travel and weather) – just to give the parents a quick update or move to this to the end of the segment. The delivery is very slow and it’s a sombre way to start your fun kids programme and I think will confuse people.
1. I would look at the introduction again and sell your characters and item ideas here – So after “It’s bug bunch time and here they come….. voiceover the names of the characters….. ” and we’ve got jokes, songs, stories and lots of fun for you, hooray” or something like that! This will give you more of a brand identity
2. And a menu through the segment telling kids what’s coming up would be good. Kids especially like signposting and also handy for parents to know what’s coming (as a way to keep kids quiet in the car – “shh darling XX is on in a minute”!)
3. I think the interaction with the kids is brilliant and you have mixed this well into the items.
4. Personally I would have liked another song, all kids like singing along and in 10 minutes you could have 2. Maybe one for a slightly older age group (not sure if you have one handy but if you do use it)
5. The level of the whole show on this file is low – I had my computer on full volume and would have liked it louder – check your recording is going to be loud enough to be on the safe side
6. I can’t remember if you will have listen again ability on your website – but it would be an added bonus to include bits for kids to play again at home
These are all little suggestions – what you have here is really very good
Best wishes
Karen
This feedback was very useful to get this feedback so that we can continue to work and make the project better. I think I agree with Karen that some of the levels are a bit off but we have Had trouble working out wheater the levels as a whole are off as sometimes we have to turn them up and sometimes we have to turn them down. I also think that Karen was right about the news it is very bleak and should be put at the end of the segment. It also needs to be shortened so that we can have more in the 10 minute segment. I also like the idea of putting in another song to bring the mood of the whole piece up a bit.
Phillips feedback 09.05.2009
I found it a little slow to get going. Get into the jokes earlier and keep it moving. Even just start with a shout
Song is excellent and “again, again” keep it moving.
Short items
Little stings of music are very good
Very distinctive is a huge plus.
This is the feedback we got from Philip Draycott after playing him some clips from the show. He thought that it was very distinctive which is good for us as it will m ake it more distinctive at the degree show. I think that overall the feedback from Philip was really good. We were told that it was 80% there which is where we thought we were and also where we really need to be. We have a week to finish it off now though which good be a little rush at the end but hopefully we will get there. I think that the feedback we got from both lecturers will contribute to how good the show is and will also help us in making the show better.
